María José Rienda

María José Rienda Contreras (born June 12, 1975 in Granada, Spain) is a former World Cup alpine ski racer.
Rienda won the last two giant slaloms of the 2005 season, the first victory for a Spanish ski racer since Blanca Fernández Ochoa in December 1991. Rienda has 6 World Cup victories, all in giant slalom.
María Rienda represented Spain at the 2002 and 2006 Winter Olympics. She missed the 2007 season and most of the 2008 season due to injuries. She retired from giant slalom in Špindlerův Mlýn on 11 March 2011.
== Biography ==
Her interest for this sport began when her father began to work on the Station of Sierra Nevada already at the age of nine it was possessing his first pair of ski. After harvesting big national results, to the fourteen it happened to form a part of the National Team of Ski. After several times remaining to the doors, on October 25, 2003 it managed for the first time to rise to the podium in a test of the World Championship, to the being third in the slalom giant giant of Soelden, Austria. In the same season it turned to make it in other times, being third in Maribor's gigantes, Slovenia, and second in of Ploughs, Sweden. Ultimately, it finished third in the general of the World Championship of giants, who gained the Swedish Anja Paerson.
The following season, 2004-2005, began with a new podium, repeating the third position of the previous year in Soelden, Austria. Little later it returned to obtain another third position, now in St. Moritz, Switzerland. Finally, on February 20, 2005 Maria Jose make history on having gained for the first time a test of the World Championship. It was in the giant slalom celebrated in the Swedish station of Plough, where have been second the previous year. This time conquered ahead of Nicole Hosp and of the Swedish Anja Paerson. She was the first Spanish skier who was obtaining such an important success from 1992 when Blanca Fernandez Ochoa did it.
Little later it returned to obtain another victory, this time in Lenzerheide's giant slalom, in Switzerland, in the last giant of the season. It returned to end the season in third position of the general classification of the giant.
